Petak, 06 Februar 2009 |
The Palić ZOO was opened for the new season on Saturday February 2nd 2009. Our gates are open every day form 9 am to 4 pm... during summer working hours will be extended until 7 pm... This year the ZOO is celebrating its 60th anniversary. During the year, there will be several events, exhibitions, and activities to mark this jubilee.
This week, the first new addition is expected, a male European Buffalo which should arrive from Berlin. There will also be a photo-monograph for which occasion the ZOO invited the citizens of Subotica and all other visitors as well to send photographs taken during the last six decades to the ZOO’s administration address. The most interesting ones will become a part of the monograph and the accompanying exhibition that is being prepared on the occasion of the anniversary.
The idea of opening a ZOO came after the World War II with the aim of reestablishing Palić as a holiday resort. Today, the ZOO has over 70 different animal species and ten times more “inhabitants”. It is widely famous for its park design with 270 different kinds of trees and 10,000 seasonal flowers. Except for the zoology and botany, a great deal of attention is given to education and protection of the nature within the shelter for wild animals.
